Lead Instructor - Daniel Filippone
Daniel developed a freelance career as a muralist/illustrator and through word of mouth, he acquired many mural commissions in New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania, which later helped him secure a position as an artist for a faux finishing and mural company. This experience has given him direct working knowledge on how to work with large-scale works and spaces. As a freelance illustrator in editorial and book illustration, his illustrations outline his sense of humor and ability to conceptualize with skill on a smaller scale and to distill concepts and commentary into a single image.

Still expanding as an artist, and always interested in teaching, the decision was made to get his master degree and more important gain valuable skills needed to work on his own artwork. He is a graduate of the New York Academy of Art, where he acquired his Master of Fine Arts degree in Painting in 2003. He taught figure drawing to New York City high school students as part of the New York Academy of Art "Go Figure" program. In the environment of the Academy's masters' program he developed his personal vision using the figure as a central element in most of his work. Utilizing a confluence of scale, composition, and his evident skill to render realism, Daniel's art matures with the years and he remains a skilled conceptual artist.

Great sources of his inspirations come from his travels through Europe. Figurative artwork has always been of interest and he believes in continuing the teaching of traditional artwork, but he also realizes the importance of staying current with digital technology and use of it as a tool in creating new artwork. His current artwork, using traditional painting methods, encompasses all his past and present experiences and pays homage to the working class, especially construction workers. The high quality of Daniel's portfolio encompasses his unique conceptual and visual communication skills.

Daniel continued a career as an illustrator, which had brought him to Boone, North Carolina for three years initially as the Artist/Illustrator in the Instructional Technology Center at Appalachian State University then as an adjunct instructor and Lecturer in Drawing and Painting in ASU's Department of Art.

Daniel has recently become the Assistant Professor of Drawing and Illustration at Frostburg State University in Maryland. Continually acquiring national and international exhibitions and awards, Daniel continues his series of paintings and drawings entitled, 'Laborers'.
