Federal Government Databases

USA.Gov — Comprehensive directory of government info; indexes home pages of government agencies; links to census data and other key statistical info.

FDsys — The Government Printing Office's new digital system provides acess to sources of information from all three branches of the Federal Government, as well as the capability to search based on date, collection, and further criteria.

Thomas.loc.gov — Library of Congress page offering a search engine for legislative information, including the Congressional Record

FedWorld — Links to many government databases; good source for technical
and scientific reports.

GPO Monthly Catalog of U.S. Publications — Identifies, locates, and describes publicly available Federal information resources. Access for FSU students, faculty, and staff via Research Port.

University of Michigan Document Center — A list of subject guides with resources for a variety of government information categories.

Infomine: Government Information — A database, indexing government information, which is recommended by librarians at several California universities.

International Resources

Library of Congress Country Studies — Online version of books published by the Federal Research Division of the Library of Congress; covers 101 countries and regions.

Background Notes — State Department site with a variety of basic information on foreign countries.

CIA World Factbook— Categories covered include geography, people, government, economy, communications, transportation, military and transitional issues. Click "Download This Publication."

United Nations Home Page — Includes session records of the General Assembly back to 2002, as well as resolutions over the UN's entire history, back to 1946.

The World’s Women 2010 — Published by the UN Statistics Division; statistics on women worldwide, with categories such as population, health, education, work, human rights, and violence against women.

Foreign Governments - This amazing web page from Northwestern University links to official web sites for governments around the world; for most countries, you are linked to several web sites, with examples being the national bank, ministry of foreign affairs, etc.  You may need to have Google translate a particular page you select.

OECD Countries - Stats, broken down by year, for countries that are members of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (about 25 countries in all); the focus is on economic indicators, but stats also include demographic topics of various kinds.
