The University web templates are comprised of a set of files including HTML template files, web images and Adobe Photoshop images. You can download version 1.1 of the FSU Web Template files below. Contact the FSU Webmaster if you need further assistance.

Windows Users - Steps to Download

  1. Click with the RIGHT mouse button on the hyperlink and choose “Save Target As” or "Save Link As".

  2. The browser normally prompts you for a folder to which to save files, and it provides a default filename. You can change the folder and filename if desired. Make a note of the location and name.

  3. Decompress (unzip) the zipped file using the WinZip software. http://www.winzip.com/

When the template files are downloaded decrompressed (unzipped), the following directory structure and files result on your computer.


design_option_1 folder


Within the design_option_1 folder, there are three sub-folders, one for each of the main/secondary content area pixel-width combinations.

350px_content_area folder
400px_content_area
folder
450px_content_area
folder

Within each of the above folders, these are a standard set of template files.

This is a version of the HTML University web template file that uses graphics in the 60-pixel deep Program/Unit identifier area.

A graphics program such as Adobe Photoshop and solid web graphic skills are required to use this version of the University web template.

To use this version of HTML template file, you will need to replace the placeholder image in the Program/Unit identifier area with a custom graphic that you create using Adobe Photoshop or another graphics editing program.

Depending whether you are using the copy of this file in the 350px_content_area, 400px_content_area or 450px_content_area folder, the Main Content and Secondary Content Areas have a preset pixel width of 350 and 200, 400 and 150, or 450 and 100, respectively.

This is a totally text-based version of the University web template file with a Program/Unit identifier area 60 pixels deep.

This is the most easy to use University web template file. It requires no graphics program and no web graphic skills.

In this version of the HTML template file, the Program/Unit Identifier area includes placeholding primary and secondary Program/Unit identifier headlines and site-wide link entries that you will need to edit using Dreamweaver or another HTML editor. If you will not use a secondary site identifier on your site, you may delete this line. If you will not use site-wide links on your site, you may delete the site-wide link entries.

Depending whether you are using the copy of this file in the 350px_content_area, 400px_content_area or 450px_content_area folder, the Primary Content and secondary Content Areas have a preset pixel width of 350 and 200, 400 and 150, or 450 and 100, respectively.

images folder

 

siteid62-*.gif
The image folder includes a set of background files for the Unit/Program Identifier area. The names of these files begin with siteid62-. There's a background file for each color in the FSU dark web color set (names beginning with siteid62-d), the FSU palette bright web color set (names beginning with siteid62-b), and for black .

navcol-*.gif
The image folder includes a set of background files for the primary navigation area. The names of these files begin with navcol-. There's a background file for each color in the FSU dark web color set (names beginning with navcol-d), the FSU bright web color set (names beginning with navcol-b), the approved web safe color tints (names beginning with navcol-ws), the web safe grays and black.

To use one of these files, set it as the background Image for the page. (In Dreamweaver, select Modify > Page Properties. Then, for the Background Image option, browse and select the appropriate image file.)

Photoshop graphic file for graphic Program/Unit identifier elements. This Photoshop graphic file is ready to customize in Photoshop. The resulting customized graphic will replace the GIF image placeholder in the index_graphic.htm template file.

To customize the file for your web site, change the Background Color Layer to the FSU Web Color Set color you will use for the Program/Unit Identifier area in your design. Then change the Program/Unit Identifier text layer to include your unit name. Optionally, you can change the Optional Secondary Program/Unit Identifier text layer if you will use a secondary identifier on your site. If you will not use a secondary site identifier, make this layer invisible. Next, change the Optional Site Wide Links text layer if you will use site-wide links on your site. If not, make this layer invisible. Finally, save the file for the web (as a .gif file).

design_option_1_custom folder


Intermediate/advanced web and graphics skills are required to create a custom home page based on this version of the University web template. All custom designed home page must be reviewed & approved by the Web Advisory Group before implementation.

This is the HTML University web template file for a custom designed home page based on site design option 1. You will need to replace the placeholder image in this file with the custom graphic(s) that you create using Adobe Photoshop or another graphics editing program.


cdesign.psd

 

Adobe Photoshop graphic file to aid in the creation of a custom home page design. This file serves as the template for the graphic portion of the home page.

Within the file, layers supply the correct formatting and placement for several required elements. The Photoshop file also includes two reference layers. One - named "Reference - Template areas" - shows the location and boundaries of the of the template areas. The other - named "Reference - Sample Custom Design" - shows how the template areas, images and color can be used to create a powerful design.

The customized graphics that you create (using the Photoshop file as the guide) will need to replace the GIF image placeholder in the "index-custom.htm" template file.
